About
ABSR was launched in 2013 with support from WXGR LP Dover (New Hampshire, USA) and Gritty, LLC, a non-profit led by Michael Wadleigh, Oscar-winner for the 1970 music documentary "Woodstock". Every song on ABSR includes at least one performer or producer who attended Alpha Boys School, or more recently, the Alpha School of Music, in Kingston, Jamaica. For a short list of music alumni click here. Alpha Boys School Radio is also a learning platform for students attending the Alpha School of Music today. Thanks to our sustaining donors for your support with which we sponsor a student scholarship. Led by the Sisters of Mercy in Jamaica, a Roman Catholic order of nuns, since 1890, and still located at 26 South Camp Road where it was founded in 1880, Alpha's music programme is where Grammy-nominee Yellowman, Blue Note Records' Dizzy Reece, Leroy Smart, Johnny Osbourne and so many others first learned their craft. Alpha continues to be a leader in music education for the Caribbean region. The school currently offers an Associate Degree in Music Performance to men and women, a trade training programme to at-risk youth men and a certificate course of study to overseas musicians.
